Then out of the blue…

Do you ever wonder at the random-ness of things?
Like how you can not see a customer for months and months then suddenly out of the blue, they pop by.
Or how you’re wondering what kind of blogger exactly is this mei who does not blog for weeks and weeks on end? months even? (eeps.hangs head in shame)
Then out of the blue…a post.
Time flies. it’s already october.
Sometimes you work and work and work.
And then..it’s october.

You know the song “when the lights go down”? No, not the boyband version by 5ive. The one by faith hill.
When the lights go down and there’s nothing left to be
When the lights go down and the truth is all you see…
which got me thinking..

Are you a different person in the open from in the dark?
I know sometimes i have like different personalities when I’m on my own as when i’m living with my family. Or when they go away on holiday, I feel like i can just be me..hang loose. Watch dvds til late at night. Woohoo.
(Party animal ain’t I?);)
I wish i could stop trying to create false perceptions of myself then have to live up to it. I wish i could always just be me.
But then again, aren’t we all at different points in time, different people?

So these are some stuffs i’ve been making lately…

Tokyoflash: Pimp, Pimpin' ain't Easy with box
Pimp! A watch that doesn’t directly show you the time.

I was reading a post on the number 1 blog in the world about Tokyoflash’s collection of crazy watches. So I went over to their website and bought myself one!

They offer free EMS (Poslaju) delivery for any orders above ¥10,000 (RM 292). There’s even a discount coupon which you can use. Just key in “AUGU7” to get a ¥1,000 discount.

The package was nicely packed and it arrived in about 5 business days. Mine was held the customs so I had to spend an afternoon to go clear it. There is no duties/taxes on watches.

Tokyoflash: Pimp, Pimpin’ ain’t Easy wristwatch.

Telling the time from this watch however, requires some kind of training. To untrained eyes, it’s just an orchestra of dancing lights. Look at the video I found on YouTube below…

There is a total of 72 bright LED lights. 12 to tell the hour of the day and the other 60 to tell the minutes of the day. 1pm or 1am is represented by illumination all 72 LED lights. 12 o’clock + 60 minutes. Here’s a scan of the dual-language manual it came with.

The good guys at Tokyoflash do offer some degree of customization for your watch should you decide to join the gang. You can request of special straps and even change the color of the LED lights. I picked blue. Cause I think it suits my blue beach crocs…

Crossword puzzle

I’M NOT GAY

Bet You Didn't Know!
A man in the USA used the Sunday newspaper crossword puzzle to propose to his girlfriend. The clue for the 15-letter answer (Will you marry me?) was “Generic Proposal”.

If a guy were to propose to me, I’ll make him look for my answer in the papers too. 8-letter response with the clue being “Unhappy”.

  • The food served at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks was nothing to shout about. Still, it was the busiest small snack kisosk at 1 Utama. Hmmm… might just work. See how la..
  • Starbuck’s anniversary blend has become my new favorite coffee.
  • Thai food at The Sanctuary, Ok-ok only la.
  • The apartments. Never seen so many people lining up to pay for lousy food.

Meet ‘Cheerful’ my fictional dog.

I always felt i was the naturally gifted intelligent type. 3 weeks ago, I went for a MENSA admission test. They mailed me the result 5 days ago. I was so busy being sad & depressed, I delayed blogging about it till now.

Result letter from MENSA

The MENSA Admission Test: I was given 40 minutes to answer 36 multiple (8) choice questions. I was too careful and wasted too much time double-checking my answers. I didn’t detect any mistakes by checking. In the end, I only managed to attempt 26 out of the 36 questions. Anyhow, sad reality remains - slow thinkers are not MENSA material. And I paid RM35 to find that out.

But I feel so much better now knowing that art is where I really excel in. Just take a look at my sample artwork. Please be advised, damn nice piece of art follows.

Cheerful, the angry dog. An original character by Daniel Ooi.

Such exceptional artistic talents when combined with a beautiful mind can only create a masterpiece. And I want to dedicate this to all the MENSAN’s of the world. I love you guys so much, I draw this for you.

Come my friends, let me show you some things.

Do you fancy a car like this…

BMW Z4 Roadster - pic from www.bmw.com
The BMW Z4 Roadster. Costs a LOT of money to own.

Or maybe an exquisite home like this one…

Villa on hilltop with private pool - pic from www.cabovillas.com
Hilltop villa. Costs a LOT MORE money to own.

Well, I do. And I like the idea of being able to afford them one day. And like the things I’ve blogged about in my wish list, I *think* I have the proper game plans to get all of them.

Now, I have this terrible weakness. I get totally turned-off when someone tells me the only way they are going afford things like these is by winning the lottery. Tell me you are going to start saving like mad, working like mad, selling like mad, begging like mad or acting super-cute and ask your parents to buy them for you. I’ll be fine. Just don’t mention the lottery.

But one person is spared from all this. My grandmother. She is closing 82 and has been a housewife, house-mother and and house-grandmother all her life. Never really ever got paid for any work she has done. So in her mind, working does not equal getting money.

da ma cai - Big Sweep
To her, pictures of running horses equal getting money!

So at every draw date, she will purchase a RM3 ticket. She tells me I can keep all the winnings if she ever strike. But with the odds at 0.00001%, it breaks my heart each time I help her check the results online. How I wish I could one day tell her she has won! That would make her at least 10 times happier than me.

da ma cai Big Sweep ticket
Green is a very nice color. I like green.

So this morning, she walked up to me with a ticket on her hand. It was for yesterday’s draw. I went online, braving myself of another heartbreaking-tell-bad-news-to-grandma-session and keyed in the ticket number. Guess what…

Big Sweep Result - Draw No: 12/07
We have a winning ticket!! RM50!! So happy. So exciting.

She didn’t even asked how much she won. She just told me to keep the winning. So steady of her. So lucky of ME…

Now comes the easy part. This is how winning the lottery is going to afford me fast cars and big villas.

With this RM50, I will invest on a comfortable pair of slippers, a few cotton singlet and a waist pouch. I will get a job as a drink waiter at a cafeteria near my house. I will turn up for work and be a reliable and honest employee. Putting the interests of the company/boss beyond my desire to slack lazily at work. I won’t steal, I won’t cheat.

12 months down the road, I would have saved enough to open my own food stall inside the cafeteria. The thousands of people whom I have served their drinks efficiently over the last 12 months will recognize me and will lend their support to my little start up. With their feedback and suggestions, I’ll further improve the quality of my food.

I’ll get additional help to cope with the demand. I’ll give my helpers a share of the profit. A well-paid helper is a happy helper. I’ll elect supervisors and move on to start a new stall at a new location.

Same formula, it will certainly work again.

Pay taxes, donate, invest, insure, buy BMW, buy hilltop villa, travel, eat, drink, sleep, exercise & blog.

If you already have RM50, then you don’t need to win the lottery. You are already half way there.

Do you still wanna win the lottery now?
